How to "Healthy" Up Your Weekend

Do you ever wake up on Monday morning feeling exhausted, even though the week has not even started? Your weekend activities could be to blame. While sometimes it is nice to let loose and hit pause on your healthy habits, you should not do it EVERY weekend. Weekends come around quite a bit. If you “let loose” every weekend, that is a very easy way to lose progress that you’ve made during the week. A healthy lifestyle means doing your best to treat your body like it deserves EVERY DAY of the week!

Here are a few easy ways to make your weekends a bit healthier:

1) BE ACTIVE – Having a weekday routine makes it easier to get your workouts in. So when the weekend comes around and the day is yours to spend as you wish (aka no schedule), it’s tempting to pass the time laying around – don’t do that! Yes, you can relax – I am NOT saying that you should not use your weekend to relax and recharge but try and fit some sort of physical activity in! I promise you will enjoy your weekend way more after you get a little sweat sesh in.

2) KEEP A REGULAR SLEEP SCHEDULE – If you stick to a regular bedtime during the week and then stay up until who knows when on the weekend, your circadian rhythm (body clock) may suffer. You do not need to be in bed super early but getting a good night’s sleep can set you up for a more productive weekend.

3) DON’T SKIP BREAKFAST – I will never understand people who do not do breakfast! I don’t get it. It is my favorite meal of the day and people who do not like it are crazy 😉 Kidding of course. But just a little. Make a point to start your weekend off right with a nourishing breakfast! It is way too easy to skip breakfast (or lunch) and then overindulge when dinnertime comes around.

4) GET OUTDOORS – My favorite way to spend the weekend! Most of us spend our week indoors, so the weekend is the perfect opportunity to get out and enjoy some fresh air. Get a dose of vitamin D, or simply take the time to switch off and connect with natural surroundings.

5) MAKE YOUR SOCIAL OUTINGS HEALTHIER – Instead of always spending your weekend catching up over drinks or pizza, why not catch up with a walk? Or even a hike? Or maybe even invite your friends over to make a fresh, healthy dinner together! The opportunities are endless! Catching up with others does NOT have to involve alcohol and not-so-clean food choices.

6) PLAN FOR THE COMING WEEK – Busy schedule? Take some time out of your weekend to make sure your calendar is in check for the coming week. If you are someone that likes to meal prep, weekends are your time to shine! Spending a little time in the kitchen on your day off can make the rest of you week run that much smoother.

7) DRINK WATER – but y’all already knew I was going to say that haha 😉

Try some of these tips to “healthy” up your weekend and keep your good habits on track!
