Are you tired of having to start over every Monday? Tired of telling yourself you will start next week since you already ‘ruined’ today? Tired of not feeling confident? If you are wanting to start working out and living a healthier lifestyle, but you cannot seem to find the right time to begin – here are some tips and tricks to help you!

You do not have to wait for a specific day of the week or time of the year to start taking care of your health. In fact, the best time to take action to make a positive change in your life is RIGHT NOW! Think about it like this – you can plan for the future, but if you do not take the action in the present, those plans will never take off. The good news is that starting out does not have to be so overwhelming if you follow my tips below!

HOW TO START NOW

Do not wait for the perfect moment:

Many of us feel like we are too busy and get way to complacent in our ways to change old habits and start creating newer, healthier ones. We tell ourselves that we can put off taking care of ourselves until we have more time, less pressure at work, or just fewer commitments. However, you do not have to wait for the perfect moment to start making healthier choices. You can start now! Get motivated by making one small change (like maybe getting in 30 minutes of exercise a day for 5 days a week) and see what a difference it makes!

Set a goal:

Having a goal that you are working towards is important so that you can measure your progress. Setting healthy goals that are realistic and achievable can help you to establish long term healthy habits. When you decide on your fitness goals, break them down into smaller goals that you can achieve quickly. This will help you keep motivated as you make progress towards your bigger goal! Taking one small step at a time is the best way to reach your overall health and wellness goals!

Consistency gets results:

I preach consistency all of the time. Habits are formed from consistent actions. Let’s make sure what we are doing consistently aligns with our health and fitness journey. When you fully commit and make it part of your lifestyle, you will get the results!

Build confidence through action:

Self-doubt can be one of the biggest barriers to starting (or restarting) your fitness journey. If you have tried before and experienced a setback, you may feel like you have failed. The first thing that you should remember is that you did not fail! Fitness is a lifestyle! It is a journey with many highs and lows. Practicing gratitude can help you to overcome any self-doubt and focus on the positive action you can take right now.

Plan to create new habits:

Once you have made the decision to start on your health and fitness journey, you need to take the time to plan how you will take action. Start by making one small change at a time to create new healthy habits. This will ensure that you make sustainable changes to your lifestyle. Remember being healthy is a lifestyle for the long term, not just a quick fix. For example – putting your phone away 30 minutes earlier to help you get a better night’s sleep and to help you feel more refreshed for the next day.

Plan to eat well:

Choosing nutritious foods can help accelerate your results from training and give you more energy! Sounds good right? Well unfortunately a lot of us claim that we are too busy, and it is hard to eat healthy at every meal. So where should you start? The best place to start is to educate yourself on how to cook healthy foods at home and how to choose the healthiest options when you are out to eat. Knowing which foods are going to help you stick to your goals can help you establish simple healthy eating habits and will become a part of your lifestyle in the long run.

Reward yourself with rest days:

Rest is an essential part of training! You can check out my previous blog post to see why rest days are just as important as your workouts! When you follow a workout program, make sure that you include at least one complete rest day each week to allow your body to recover. This will help to keep you motivated to continue with your training once you have started. Just remember, that a rest day is not a free for all. You still need to eat clean and healthy even when it is your rest day.

Prepare for tough days:

You can expect to encounter a setback or two during your fitness journey. If you lose motivation to workout, you may try finding a new training style. If you are usually found hitting the weights, maybe switch it up with some Pilates or yoga occasionally. You will most likely find something that you really love! If one of the reasons you have not yet started is that you are afraid of losing motivation quickly, plan ahead to prevent it! Find some motivational quotes that inspire you and remind you why you started, find an accountability partner, you can even create a great workout playlist you love! These will help you get through those tough days.
